THE STORY OF HALLMARK IN THE PHILIPPINES
The beginnings of Hallmark in the Philippines has its share of twists and charm. In 1969, people from Kansas City, home of the Hallmark headquarters, came here looking for a local licensee. It was in National Book Store that Hallmark discovered the qualities they too valued: the premium placed on excellence; the right attitude towards growth; qualities which the lady at the helm of the bookstore business also had, she's our idea of a salesgirl at heart, Mrs. Socorro C. Ramos
It was a Good Friday when Mrs. Ramos was approached by Hallmark U.S A. Thereafter, she went to Kansas City to arrange the deal. It was on her kitchen table that the very first cards were planned, and so the license to manufacture and distribute products bearing the crown and script trademark was awarded to a small book store with a great future. This was in 1973, the start of the Hallmark NBS partnership. The next year, Hallmark cards made their appearance on the racks of National Book Store.
What followed were years of astounding growth and excellence. In product lines, from Christmas to everyday themes, more greeting cards and other excellent products have been added on each year to establish a full line of quality Hallmark merchandise.
In production capacity, from a few thousand rounds per design in the 70's, Hallmark designs are now produced in thousands of designs.
In market growth, from a sprinkling of consumers in Metro Manila, Hallmark now serves the personal expression needs of people nationwide.
We have not failed the trust Hallmark U.S.A. placed in us. We have shown them that we, too, can take the Hallmark spirit to heart.
Today, Hallmark in the Philippines is approximately 400-strong, a full complement of dedicated individuals who are ready to respond to every customers need. It has a large and efficient warehouse that is ready to meet strong consumer demand.
As we forge ahead in the arena of the personal expression industry, we will continue to work by the rules of growth and excellence. This is the legacy given to us by the very best greeting card company in the world. It is a legacy that must live in our hearts and minds because we care enough to be the very best.
